I am the youngest of 5 children and have two brothers and two sisters. I graduated from St. Mary's High School in Independence in 1987. The summer after I graduated, I briefly considered the priesthood, but quickly dismissed the thought. I attended college for a few years and eventually went to work for a life insurance company in Kansas City.
God continued to place in my heart the calling to the priesthood. Despite my best efforts, I could no longer ignore it. I had the fear that perhaps I was too sinful, too old or otherwise inadequate in some way. But after a lot of prayer, God convinced me that it wasn't up to me. It's his decision and if he's really calling me, he'll give me the grace I need. It was up to me to have the courage to act.
St. Augustine said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee, O Lord." Ultimately, no one will be truly happy until they discern God's plan for their life. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, I found the courage to pursue God's calling. I look forward to someday serving the good people of this diocese as a priest and ask for your prayers.
