God has placed four men and two women in my path that have inspired and directed me on my spiritual and religious journey. An older priest, Monsignor William Blacet in Kansas City, is one of them. I happened in on a noon Mass of his seven years ago. He didn't begin with "Good Afternoon everyone" but rather "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." He told no jokes, made nobody hold hands, and his sermon had some teeth to it. Instead of leaving Church feeling like I just left a feel-good therapy session or a networking meeting, I left feeling nourished by Christ's Body and Blood.
Another man that God sent to me was my good shepherd, His Excellency Bishop Robert Finn. I have met people and seminarians from all over the country who have had nothing but praise for him. They tell me how lucky I am to have a holy Bishop that has a backbone, unafraid to guide his poor lost sheep to the ways of the Truth.
The third man is my father, John T. Drew. He raised nine children, putting all of us through Catholic school. When I asked him shortly before he died how he managed to clothe and feed so many kids, and how he succeeded in business, he replied: "I married your mother." My poor mother has been praying for me for 40 years; no easy task. She has been a loving guide, full of wisdom and my apostle of common sense for a long time. I honor my mother and my father.
The last two people I will mention are of course, the ultimate Man — Our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Mother Mary. I had been in the business world for many years and out of school for over 20. With Christ all things are possible. I put my trust in Him, and I never forget His Mother's invaluable advice: "Do whatever He tells you."
