Directors Message
Message from the Director,
On April 12, 2006, Bishop Robert W. Finn, D.D., approved a new program for formation of permanent deacons in the Diocese of Kansas City-St.Joseph. The new formation program meets the standards of the National Directory for Formation of Deacons, as did the previous diaconate formation provided by the diocese.
Formation for the current class preparing for the permanent diaconate is being conducted by the St. Meinrad Diaconate Formation Program. This program is preparing deacon candidates for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, as well as for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. These academic classes are held at Savior of the World Pastoral Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
The new program consists of a year of “aspirancy” (a discernment year) followed by four years of academic and pastoral/ministerial formation. Other elements of the formation program include human, pastoral and spiritual formation.
Diaconate Class 18 is currently in their final year of Candidacy in the St. Meinrad Program.
The next formation class (class 19) is in their aspirancy year.
They will receive their academic formation from Conception Abbey Seminary in Conception, Missouri.
Deacon Dwayne Katzer
Director of Formation
