In the liturgical celebrations each person, minister or layman, who has an office to perform, should do all of, but only, those parts which pertain to his office by the nature of the rite and the principles of liturgy. Servers, lectors, (musicians) and members of the choir also exercise a genuine liturgical function. They ought, therefore, to discharge their office with the sincere piety and decorum demanded by so exalted a ministry and rightly expected of them by God's people. Consequently they must all be deeply imbued with the spirit of the liturgy, each in his own measure, and they must be trained to perform their functions in a correct and orderly manner.

The English translation of the New Roman Missal. After years in the making the English translation of the New Roman Missal is now awaiting the final approval of the bishops and the Vatican. To begin educating the faithful and clergy on the new translation, the U.S. bishops have launched a website.

The website dedicated to the new translation can be found at:

"We have a great opportunity during this period not only to learn about the changes, not only to learn about the revised texts, but also to deepen our own understanding of the Liturgy itself," he says. "We encourage priests, deacons, religious, liturgical ministers, all the faithful to avail themselves of the information that we are making available." Bishop Arthur Serratelli, Chair, Bishops' Committee on Divine Worship

Last Friday, the US Bishops received a communique from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, this one dated 29 June.

The message: the Tetragrammaton (YHWH) -- the Hebrew notation for the name of God -- is now forbidden to be "used or pronounced" in worship.

The letter, which has not yet been published on either the Vatican or the USCCB Websites offers the following specific directives. <click here for directives
