Office for Inclusive Education

Catholic schools and early childhood centers recognize the special needs of students with disabilities.  Schools should attempt to address the special needs of students to the greatest possible extent with responsible inclusion.  The goal of all efforts to address students special learning needs should be to provide an appropriate learning environment.

Before admitting students, schools must obtain complete information from the student's parents and from all prior schools before determining what steps are necessary.  Also, the schools must find a feasible way to meet the student’s educational needs and what the school may do while maintaining standards for the student seeking admission and other students or staff.  If there is an IEP or Service Plan in place, the parent must inform the school and provide a copy to the school.

Principals and Directors will work with the local school district to ensure that all students are receiving the services to which they are entitled by law.  The Diocesan Special Needs Coordinator should be consulted for additional support and for information about resources available in the community.
