Social Doctrine

Beginning with the foundational principle of the dignity of the human person this course will examine the resulting fundamental rights, social principles, and values which flow from our created nature. We will survey the development of social doctrine in Papal documents from the time of Pope Leo XIII to the present day using the Compendium of Social Doctrine.  We then explore the application of these rights and principles to various spheres of human life; the family, workplace, economic life, political community, international community, stewardship of the earth, and the promotion peace.  Finally we highlight the unique mission of the lay faithful in fulfilling this call to live gospel values in the midst of the world.
